Vera House Charity Days

We are super excited to begin 2017 with an announcement for all of our faithful fans and followers. 2016 was the pits! Lots of bad stuff happened. Most significantly, the political future of this country took a decided turn for the worse. Understandably, many people in our community are experiencing a wide range of emotions. After processing those feelings, we have decided to go all-in and put our money where our mouths (and social media posts) have been. Starting this month, we are launching a monthly Strong Hearts social justice charity program. The crux of the program is as follows: Throughout every month in 2017, we will be donating 50% of the proceeds from one days worth of sales from both our locations to a local or regional nonprofit group that we believe helps makes the community a better place. We will be supporting organizations that embody the ideals of tolerance, compassion, equality, respect, humanity, community, and love. We will be promoting these groups within the cafe and on all of our various social media platforms. It is our way of giving back to the community that has offered us such incredible support for the past eight and a half years while also trying to make the world a little bit better of a place for everyone.

We’re happy to announce that the first group we will be raising funds for in January is Vera House, Inc., a local nonprofit organization with a mission to end domestic and sexual violence, to assist families in crisis, to support those affected by domestic and sexual violence to live safe, self-sufficient lives, to empower women and children, and to promote a culture of equality and respect in all relationships. Vera House is an organization that began in the late 1970’s in Central New York that offered emergency services to women in crisis. It has since expanded it’s services into a wide range of domestic violence services including outreach and advocacy, domestic violence education programming, children’s counseling, the Syracuse Area Domestic and Sexual Violence Coalition and a domestic violence education and accountability program for perpetrators of violence.

We have selected Monday, January 16th, MLK Day, as the day we will be donating 50% of the proceeds from our sales that day to Vera House. As mentioned above, our secondary location, Strong Hearts On The Hill, will also be taking part in this program and we will be donating funds from our sales on Saturday, January 21st, at that location. So, you’ll have TWO days to come in, grab some food that hopefully you would’ve been inclined to get anyways, and help support a very deserving organization here in Syracuse that helps countless members of our community live safe and happy lives.

If you are inclined to support these efforts, do us a favor and 1.) come in for some food on these days! and 2.) share this with your social media networks so we can drum up even more business and raise even more money for this very worthy organization.

We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for making 2016 our best year ever. We are tremendously grateful and constantly humbled at the outpouring of support our little cafe continuously receives. We have never taken that for granted. Ever. We vow to always do our best to reciprocate that support, to constantly be improving what we do, and to do our part in help bringing about a more just, peaceful, and compassionate world not only for animals, but for our fellow human beings as well.
